One person who we truly enjoyed being able to engage with is Julie Benz, and she’s someone that genre fans will likely recognize thanks to her history in film and TV.

Julie was born in Pennsylvania in 1972 to a surgeon and an ice skater. She began ice skating at a young age before gradually deciding to move into acting at the age of 18 when her ice skating career ended after a stress fracture injury.

Her first role was in the play “Street Law”, and finally landed her debut film appearance in the film “Two Evil Eyes”, directed by horror legends George A. Romero and Dario Argento. Afterwards, in 1991, she secured a part in the show “Hi Honey, I’m Home!” for the duration of its two season run.

Throughout the next several years, Julie appeared in a wide range of other TV shows including:

  • Boy Meets World
  • Hang Time
  • Diagnosis: Murder
  • Step by Step
  • Married with Children
  • Hearts Adrift
  • Darkdrive

It was 1996 that Benz started to get noticed by the industry and by genre fans thanks to her role as Darla in the pilot episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. That performance was so strong and so enjoyed by fans that the showrunners expanded her part to several additional episodes. After “Buffy”, Benz appeared in films like “As Good As It Gets” and “Jawbreaker” as well as shows like “The King of Queens”.

Julie’s biggest role, and the one she’s most famous for, is that of Rita Bennett in Showtime’s hit show “Dexter”. Playing the romantic interest for the title character led to numerous awards and nominations including Screen Actors Guild nominations and a Saturn Award win.

She has stayed active after her time on “Dexter”, with roles in movies and shows throughout the last several years including parts in “Ricochet”, “Supremacy”, and “Sole Custody” as well as a lead role in “The Boondock Saints 2″.

Simply put, Julie is one of those actresses who genre fans will recognize instantly thanks to her appearance in some of the most well-loved TV shows in history. We’re happy to have a good working relationship with her, and can’t wait to see what project she brings her immense talent to next.
